XiaomiDevices – In addition to the dark mode feature, the MIUI 11 update also brings the Always-On Display feature. This new feature can make it easier for users to check the clock, battery, or notifications.

By activating this feature, the screen will still display various information even when the screen is off mode so you can check many things without having to unlock the screen.

Always-On Display in MIUI 11 also brings several other advantages. One of them, this feature brings dynamic and beautiful customization options. You can choose to display animated clocks, kaleidoscopes, or certain text as you wish.

But unfortunately, this feature does not apply to all Xiaomi devices that support MIUI 11 because it can only be activated on devices that already use AMOLED screen technology.

Why specifically devices with AMOLED? Unlike LCD technology, AMOLED has its own light source in each pixel. Thus, they can produce a deeper black by turning off each of those pixels.

As an advantage, the screen can be more efficient in consuming battery when displaying black. This advantage is utilized by smartphone companies by creating the Always-On Display feature.

For Xiaomi itself, several devices that support technology are devices from the flagship line, namely Xiaomi Mi 8, Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, Redmi K20, Xiaomi Mi 9T, Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro, Redmi K20 Pro, and Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro.

Now if you are a user of one of the devices above, here’s how to activate the Always-On Display feature on that device. For the record, of course you need MIUI 11 installed on your device.

First, go to the page Settings and then click on options Ambient Display & Lock screen. Turn on Ambient Display by sliding the button to the on position.

In this section, you can also set the Always-On Display display by adjusting the options Style, Show items, and When notification comes and the screen is off. You can further explore these options to make the display as attractive as possible.

For the record, this feature will definitely increase power consumption slightly when activated compared to the screen is completely off. For this reason, this feature will turn off automatically when the device is in a dark environment for a long time or when a power saving mode is applied.
